In one week, I will get the privilege to dance with one
billion women and those who love them from all over the world. I will be
dancing from the heart, I will be smiling like an idiot and I will love every
minute of it. Because, for the past month I have been working with encouraging
and inspirational women to piece together this inaugural event.
It all began when the lovely Katrine accepted the infamous
Eve Ensler’s challenge to get one billion women
dancing on V-Day. Katrine sent out an email in the first week of January to her
contacts in the Adelaide’s women’s networks. YWCA of Adelaide was one of them
and I was so glad we answered.
Over the past four weeks, I’ve felt very grateful that I’ve
been so involved. I’ve worked on the marketing material, jumping at the chance
to have a little play with design. I’ve been on Facebook constantly, connecting
with One Billion Rising groups all over the world. It’s amazing and addictive
just how much the One Billion Rising movement has grown worldwide (199
countries currently involved!) From the jaw dropping figures, to the kick butt
quotes and the never ending videos and photographs from around the globe,
women, men and children are coming together.

So for this Valentine’s Day, I’d love to have you as my date. We are powerful individuals and
together we can accomplish so much more. We all have busy lives but we’re never
busy to have fun, to dance, to sing, to rejoice. I want to invite you to
strike, dance and rise with me and one billion women around the world on
Thursday 14 February. And if you can’t make it this year, find someone who can
and pencil it in to your diary for next year 😉
It’s going to be a beautiful event, and we should all rise
to stop violence against women. Don’t you agree?
